Thos C Wild was incorporated as a limited company in March 1929, with an activity range that included the purchase and re-sale of machine tools, and the overhaul and manufacture of electric motors and ancillary equipment.

The Capital Company acquired the present premises during the period of re-armament preceding the Second World War, when forgings were produced for the Inspectorate of Armaments. From these beginnings, the company has grown, by a series of investments in plant and equipment, and the development of quality systems, to be able to fulfil the demands of cutting edge aerospace, oil and gas and power generation customers, for their hand forged and rolled ring requirements.

The recent history of Thos C Wild has seen consistent performance, in spite of several changes of ownership. In May 1997, Cirqual plc acquired the Company from the Wild family, along with its subsidiary, Alfred Steel Ltd. Subsequently, in August 1999, Cirqual was itself acquired, by L. Gardner Group plc, which became Gardner Group Ltd after a management buy-out in March 2003.

In July 2005, the Alfred Steel division of Thos C Wild was sold , to enable the management to focus on their core business of forged rings. During August 2005, the management of the Company successfully purchased Thos C Wild from the Gardner Group, and it now operates as a privately owned concern under the same trading name.

Independence from the Gardner Group has enabled the management of Thos C Wild to engage in renewed investment in the plant and equipment at the Vulcan Works site. Various investment projects are already underway, and more are in the pipeline, with the objective of enhancing the forging capacity and shortening lead times to improve the level of service offered to customers.
